Little Boys and Monster Trucks

Saturday, Feb. 26, Pops took Benji and Matthew to the Monster Truck Jam at the Richmond Coliseum. The boys had a blast (including the big boy)!  Benji and Matthew really like the Grave Digger as we pass its home in Kill Devil Hills, NC, every time we go to the Outer Banks. The Grave Digger won all four events on Saturday (racing, wheelies, donuts, and free style).

Before the show started the boys were able to go down to the Pit and meet the drivers.  They got all the drivers to autograph their program and, as you will see below, got their picture taken with each driver.

Here are some pics and there is a brief video at the end of this post.

Basketball and Fencing

Today was an action-packed day for Benji and Matthew.  Benji had his last basketball game of the season and while his team fell behind early 8-0, the Amelia Raiders rallied to end the game tied 13-13. Benji had his highest scoring game of the season, sinking 3 field goals for a total of 6 points! Following the game, Benji and his teammates received their coveted trophies!  Overall it was a great first season for Benji and he is already talking about summer basketball and basketball camp!!

Following the basketball game, it was a rush a few blocks over in Amelia for Matthew's second fencing tournament and first of 2011.  This tournament would be his second fencing with a "foil" blade, and his first time ever using the wider, heavier "epee" blade, which proved to be very exciting, as the entire body is the target in epee fencing.  Matthew fought hard all day and took home 3rd place medals for each type of weapon.  Congratulations Matthew!!

Steve's Knee Surgery 2-14-2011

Steve had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this morning to repair torn cartilage (meniscus). The surgery was successful and he is now recovering at home.  Thanks for every one's prayers.

Machine used to keep wrap on knee cold at all times. Ice in box is used to send ice cold water to wrap on knee. Want to know why health care costs are so high? They send this machine home with patient and do not recycle!!! We get a cool machine to use again for other injuries....but why not recycle for other patients?

Zachary David Foster - Lynchburg, Va Firefighter

Friday was a big day for the Foster family.  In addition to Beth Nell getting engaged to the bearded boy from Blue Ridge (aka Brandon Lay), Zachary graduated from firefighting academy and was sworn in as a Lynchburg, Va. firefighter!  Mom and Dad Foster were obviously prouder than the proverbial peacock, and even prouder when it was announced that Zach was number one in the class of recruits! He was given a certificate of academic merit and selected to give an address to the audience on behalf of his class.

The evening was wonderful and full of pomp and circumstance....bagpipes, golden axes, and generations of firefighters filled the room.  Below are a few pictures from the evening.

He asked her WHAT????

On Friday, January 21, Brandon took Bethie for a drive out to the Appomattoax River down in the Petersburg area.  Don't they look so happy together?  But wait, Bethie's smile is a little bigger and brighter than normal....hmmmm.

Bethie stops to make a phone call....hmmm, something is different about this picture.  Something I have never seen before.

Is it a new cell phone?
Let's take a closer look.....

Wait a minute!!  I think Brandon has been watching too many Jarrod's commercials!!  Could it be that he finally asked the question Bethie has been waiting soooo long to hear?

Yes, Brandon confessed his never-ending love for Beth Nell and she said.....

YES!!!!!!!!!!!
